Description

Newtown Harbour is a large sheltered harbour on the northern shore of the Isle of Wight.

Once you enter the harbour, channels are available in many directions.

Lots of vessels tend to anchor along the north eastern channel, which provides good shelter at low water when the weather is from the north.

This area gets very busy during the summer, so it is recommended to arrive early, especially if you have a larger vessel that needs to remain afloat.

Shallower draft vessels or dinghies that can dry out will usually find space to the north of the channel.

Fees are payable to the harbour master or National Trust who will visit in a launch during the season. This tends to be during normal working hours.

Anchorage

Vessels anchor along the channel where water remains deep enough at all states of the tide. If your vessel can dry out, it is possible to anchor in shallower areas to the north.

Navigational Hazards

The seabed is predominently soft, however care should be taken as it is possible for vessels to dry out at low water, particularly if you anchor to the north of the channel.

Approach

Once entering Newtown Harbour, follow the channel to port. The visitor moorings mark the main channel.
